Job summary

The City of Brandon is seeking a Water Operator I (Class D Licensed) to join its Public Works Water Division. Under supervision, the role encompasses operating and maintaining wells, water mains, storage tanks, valves, and related infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable drinking water.

Responsibilities include monitoring SCADA and performing preventive maintenance, collecting water quality samples, and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Mississippi Class D Waterworks Operator License is required.
  • Valid Mississippi Driver’s License is required.
  • One year of experience in water utility operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, maintain, and repair municipal groundwater wells and water distribution infrastructure.
  • Monitor the water system via routine inspections and SCADA; respond to alarms and abnormal conditions.
  • Collect bacteriological and water quality samples per state regulations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, valves, hydrants, meters, and related equipment.
  • Install, repair, replace, and maintain water mains, services, valves, and meters.
  • Respond to water leaks, service interruptions, and main breaks; locate utilities.
