Job description

Penn Life Sciences is seeking a Water Systems Mechanic to join our team in Langhorne, PA.

The Mechanic, Critical Utility Systems will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of critical utilities that support GMP pharmaceutical manufacturing, including clean and black utility systems. This role ensures the reliability and compliance of essential systems such as WFI, clean steam, compressed gases, HVAC, and boiler operations. The ideal candidate will bring hands‑on experience with mechanical and electrical systems in a regulated manufacturing environment, strong troubleshooting skills, and a proactive approach to maintaining operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain clean and black utility systems including WFI, PW, clean steam, process air, nitrogen, boilers, chillers, and air compressors.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical systems in accordance with SOPs, OEM manuals, and safety regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment alarms, system deviations, and utility performance issues to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance and repair activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Interpret P&IDs, electrical diagrams, and schematics to support utility operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Engineering, Quality, and Production to ensure utilities remain compliant, reliable, and inspection‑ready at all times.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training, trade certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in utility system operations, facility maintenance, or mechanical systems within a GMP, pharmaceutical, or industrial setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of clean and black utility systems such as WFI, clean steam, nitrogen, compressed air, boilers, and chillers.
  • Proficiency in preventive maintenance, mechanical repair, and troubleshooting of pumps, valves, and automated controls.
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS), CMMS platforms (e.g., Blue Mountain, Maximo, SAP PM), and basic PLC principles.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and SOPs, with attention to safety, data integrity, and compliance standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or within a team.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and after‑hours as required to support 24/7 facility operations.
