Genesis AEC is seeking a Process Utilities Engineer (Early Career) in Blue Bell, PA. You will design clean utilities systems for pharmaceutical projects, prepare piping design, and develop contract deliverables.

You’ll work with Process and Process Utilities teams, supporting code compliance and industry standards while coordinating with clients. Previous internships or 1–5 years of design experience are preferred.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering or related field; intern or prior work appreciated.
  • 1–5 years’ experience in design and engineering of process utility systems in pharma/biotech.
  • Basic knowledge of purified water, WFI, clean steam, compressed air, and related systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develops expertise with building codes, client standards, and industry guidelines.
  • Assists in development of P&IDs and PFDs for process utilities.
  • Surveys existing systems and assesses field conditions for project support.
  • Reviews equipment lists for process utility design requirements.
  • Assists in layout and design of process utility generation equipment.
  • Prepares piping contract documents and floor plans from P&IDs.
  • Supports construction administration (RFIs, shop drawings).
  • Attends project meetings and provides input.
  • Performs engineering calculations and prepares specifications.

Job Summary

As a Process Utilities Engineer, you will be part of a team that designs clean utilities systems that carry water, steam, waste, or other fluids for Client projects in the pharmaceutical sector. You will prepare project deliverables and contract documents, including piping design and drawings. Utilize your knowledge and interpretation of code compliance requirements and industry standards for the pharmaceutical industry to develop system designs. You will work closely with both the Process and Process Utilities departments and Clients.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develops expertise with building codes, client standards, and industry guidelines.
  • Assists in the development of Process Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs).
  • Surveys existing systems and assesses field conditions to support the development/completion of projects.
  • Reviews equipment lists for relevant process utility design requirements.
  • Aids in the layout and design of process utility generation equipment, i.e., water purification equipment, WFI stills, clean steam generators, compressed air equipment etc.
  • Prepares process piping contract documents, including laying out process piping from P&IDs to floor plans, producing details, etc.)
  • Supports Construction administration (Answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, etc.)
  • Attends project meetings to provide input and updates.
  • Develops expertise in code, client standards, and industry guidelines.
  • Performs engineering calculations.
  • Prepares contract documents (redline/produce floor plans, details, flow diagrams, and schedules)
  • Prepares specifications.
  • Attends job meetings for coordination and communication.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Familiarity with cGMP regulations and standards preferred,
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • In-depth knowledge of general building construction for process systems.
  • Knowledgeable in code compliance and industry standards for process utilities.
  • Capable of resolving basic issues independently and escalating complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Possesses a beginning-to-working knowledge of subject matter, working towards technical expertise.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills needed for coordination with team members and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Mathematic skills
Education and Experience
  • BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Previous internship or work experience preferred.
  • 1-5 years’ experience in design and engineering of process utility systems in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, with basic knowledge of purified water, water for injection, clean steam, compressed air, compressed gases, vacuum, cryogenic liquids, neutralization systems, and effluent decontamination systems.
Physical Requirements

The physical demands on this job include:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting for laptop/computer work.
  • Occasional site visits, requiring mobility.
  • Must be able to move a ladder and lift to 25 pounds at times.
  • Travel expectation: 5% for client meetings and surveys, mostly local but occasional national travel with possible overnight stays.
