Job summary

Village of Schaumburg is seeking a Maintenance Assistant for the Water Division in Engineering & Public Works. The role supports repairs and maintenance of more than 400 miles of water main, 5,000 valves, and 5,000 hydrants, including water main breaks, valve and hydrant work, and meter repairs.

This part-time position performs unskilled manual tasks, may handle semi-skilled mechanical work, custodial tasks, and operates a vehicle.

Qualifications

• Educational requirement: high school diploma or equivalent.
• At least six months of general maintenance or related experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficiency with basic computer technology and job-specific software/customer service systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine unskilled manual tasks using basic tools and handling heavy material.
• Performs minor maintenance and custodial work on village properties.
• Keeps shop/yard organized and ensures proper storage of tools and equipment.
• Assists in processing material requests and distributions for fleet and public works.
