Job summary

The City of DeKalb is seeking a Water Service Maintenance employee to perform manual maintenance on water mains, well houses, water treatment facilities, meters and hydrants. You will also support public works tasks and respond to call‑outs and emergencies, including JULIE locates.

Starting at an hourly rate with a comprehensive benefits package, including health/dental/vision, IMRF pension, and leave time, the role emphasizes safety and reliability in water infrastructure operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Possession of a Class B Illinois Public Water Supply Operator Certification, or willingness to obtain.
• Possession of a valid Illinois CDL Class B permit within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to obtain an Illinois CDL Class B license within an agreed‑upon timeframe (estimated six months).
• Ability to obtain tanker endorsement as requested.

Responsibilities

• Respond to scheduled call‑out rotations and emergency requests for JULIE locates.
• Perform maintenance on water mains, well houses, water treatment facilities, meters and hydrants.
• Support general public works tasks as needed.
• Address customer service issues and weather‑related incidents.
