Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks an Environmental Engineering Specialist in the Southeast Regional Office, Safe Drinking Water, Norristown, PA. You will review public water system applications, assess treatment processes, prepare letters, and assist with inspections to ensure regulatory compliance and protect drinking water.

Full-time role with telework up to 3 days per week; standard schedule 8:00 AM–4:00 PM.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of Environmental Engineering Trainee program (Commonwealth title or equivalent).
• Two years of professional environmental engineering experience with an active Engineering Intern certificate.
• One year of professional environmental engineering + active PE license.
• One year of professional environmental engineering with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Graduate study may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Review public water system applications for regulatory compliance.
• Assess treatment processes and system components for new or modified facilities.
• Prepare technical letters, deficiency notices, and review summaries referencing regulations.
• Assist with field inspections to verify construction, system performance, and permit compliance.
• Provide consultation on water system requirements and treatment techniques.
• Coordinate with other agencies and DEP programs to ensure complete permit reviews.

Education

Environmental Engineering Trainee program or equivalent

Two years of professional experience in environmental engineering with Engineering Intern certificate

One year of professional experience in environmental engineering with Professional Engineer license

One year of professional experience in environmental engineering with a bachelor's degree in engineering

Graduate study in environmental engineering substitute for required experience
