Job summary

The City of Huron seeks a dependable, motivated Water & Sewer Maintenance Worker- Uncertified to join its Water and Sewer Department. This role maintains and repairs the community’s water distribution and sewer collection systems, under general supervision.

The successful applicant will perform duties including installing and repairing mains, service connections, hydrants, lift stations, and valves; maintain maps and records; respond to emergencies; and operate light to medium equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience operating light and medium equipment is preferred.
• Ability to obtain Class I Water Distribution Certification and Class I Sewer Collection Certification within two years of employment.
• Ability to maintain required certifications through continuing education throughout employment.
• Ability to obtain a valid South Dakota Class B Commercial Driver License with N endorsement within 60 calendar days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installing, maintaining, and repairing water mains, sewer mains, water service connections, fire hydrants, lift stations, and valves.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on water distribution and sewer collection systems.
• Operate light and medium equipment as assigned.
• Maintain and update system maps and related records.
• Respond to emergency water and sewer system issues as needed.
• Follow established safety procedures, regulations, and department policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
