Job summary

City of Mercer Island is seeking a Utilities Team Member to operate and maintain water, sewer, and storm drainage systems. The role focuses on the sewer collection network, pump stations, catch basins, and related telemetry equipment, with duties spanning inspection, maintenance, and capital projects.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED with 3+ years in construction/mechanical/electrical trades, CDL-B, and Washington state certifications within the first year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 3 years of construction/mechanical/electrical trade experience.
• Ability to operate heavy machinery (backhoe, jetting machine) and read drawings/maps.
• Strong verbal communication in English and ability to work in a team.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and proper protective equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate jetting equipment to clear sewer lines.
• Inspect and repair sewer lines and pump stations.
• Maintain hydrants, valves and meters; monitor telemetry and reservoirs.
• Perform CCTV video inspections and record maintenance needs.
• Assist with water quality testing and chemical analysis.
• Drive City vehicle and uphold safety procedures.
