Job summary

The City of Mercer Island is seeking seasonal grounds and facilities maintenance help for the Utilities Team. You will assist with right-of-way areas around utility infrastructure, the water reservoir and booster facility, and 18 sewer pump stations, performing routine tasks to support operations.

Responsibilities include painting hydrants, weed and brush control, mowing, and general site cleanup. Applicants should be able to work outdoors in all weather, read maps, follow directions from Crew

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• Strong ability to read and interpret water and sewer utility system maps.
• Strong ability to read and interpret roadway maps for Mercer Island.
• Ability to work outdoors during all types of weather conditions.
• Good verbal communication skills in English and basic writing skills.
• Ability to practice safety and wear protective clothing; must provide own steel-toed boots.

Responsibilities

• Clean and paint fire hydrants and other utility infrastructure.
• Perform weeding, general clean-up, brushing, mowing, edging, weed eating and ivy removal in the right-of-way and landscaped areas.
• Able to work well with others and take direction from Crew Leads and Foremen.
• Must have regular and predictable work attendance to fulfill essential functions.
• Other duties as assigned.
