Job summary

The City of Goldsboro is seeking a field-level maintenance worker to repair, replace, and construct water distribution and sewer lines. The role includes mowing, clearing clogs, flagging, and assisting with inflow/infiltration mitigation, meter work, and hydrant service.

Candidates should have basic tools experience and the ability to read maps. Salary range is negotiable based on qualifications and experience; position requires working under close supervision and potential on-call duties.

Qualifications

• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
• Two years of utility maintenance, construction or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina Class “B” Driver’s License, or ability to obtain within one year of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Repair, replace and construct water and sewer lines as needed.
• Mow and maintain spray fields, outfalls and access roads for maintenance access.
• Clear backed up or clogged sewer lines using pressurized hoses, rakes and shovels.
• Perform flagger operations on roadways during maintenance and repair operations.
• Assist with inflow and infiltration mitigation measures, including upgrading manhole lids and pans, and raising manholes.
• Read and interpret water and sewer system maps; operate and maintain light to medium equipment and power tools.
