Job summary

The Town of Wellesley Department of Public Works seeks an Assistant Superintendent for the Water and Sewer Division to oversee water and sewer operations, regulatory compliance, and reliable service. The role acts as Superintendent in their absence and assists with emergency restoration activities.

Responsibilities include leading Division personnel, managing water systems, administering metering, and ensuring adherence with applicable regulations and budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field or six years equivalent education and experience.
• 2 years water/sewer utility management experience including supervision and budget management.
• Distribution Class 2 and Treatment Class 1 certifications, or ability to obtain within one year.
• Knowledge of chemistry, biology, hydraulics, treatment, conveyance, construction, SCADA, and PLC systems.
• Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise, instruct, and train Division personnel.
• Manage water supply, treatment, distribution, and wastewater operations.
• Administer the automatic meter reading system.
• Develop plans to maintain and improve operations.
• Ensure compliance with Federal, State, DEP, MWRA, and Town regulations.
• Assist with operating and capital budgets; remain on call for emergencies.
