Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, civil engineering, or a related field.
• Ten years of municipal water operations with at least three years supervisory experience, or equivalent education/experience.
• Massachusetts Drinking Water Supply Licenses Grade D3 and Grade T3 required.
• Working knowledge of SCADA systems.
• Strong knowledge of water supply, distribution operations, and drinking water regulations.
• Ability to read maps/blueprints; supervise staff; manage budgets; operate standard software.
• Familiarity with grant writing is preferred.
• Ability to work in varying outdoor conditions with occasional exposure to chemicals and other hazards.

Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, and direct operation, maintenance, and construction of the water system.
• Monitor watershed conditions to balance demand with supply.
• Oversee preventative maintenance and capital projects.
• Supervise departmental personnel, scheduling and performance.
• Ensure compliance with drinking water regulations and prepare regulatory reports.
• Direct water main installations, extensions, maintenance, and emergency repairs; review contractor work and costs.
• Develop long-range plans for conservation, fire protection, and infrastructure upgrades.
• Investigate department-related claims.
• Prepare and administer the department budget, payroll, purchasing, and records.
• Respond to public inquiries and represent the department at meetings.
• Attend professional development and maintain required state licenses.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
