Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

What You'll Do:

• Maintains large and small water meters, including encoder meters, and meter reading equipment.
• Installs, repairs and exchanges meters and associated equipment.
• Operates a water services truck and uses small hand tools to perform meter maintenance.
• Investigates billing complaints and vacant properties by visiting locations and obtaining reads.
• Checks for leaks and interacts with customers.
• Utilizes maps to locate and read remote and out-of-the-way meters.
• Inspects work performed by licensed plumbers.
• Performs rechecks on original reads, and locates and/or digs up and cleans out curb boxes and meter vaults.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the municipal water main network and the various connections between that network and points of residential, commercial, and industrial usage as well as the mechanical design, parts and operation of water meters and service components.
• Must possess a thorough understanding of the metering and billing process and basic plumbing principles and repair techniques.

REQUIRES

• High school graduation and 2 years of experience in the installation or reading of water meters, or construction and maintenance of water mains and services.
• Must possess a valid State-issued driver's license in acdordance with the City of KCMO policies.
• May be required to possess a valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) Class A, B, or C issued by the State of Missouri prior to the end of the employee's probationary period (appropriate CDL will be determined by the department).
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical as prescribed by the City.

Positions requiring a high school diploma/GED certificate must be obtained from a school/program accredited by the Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.

For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
