Job summary

KM Engineering, an Idaho-based firm, seeks an experienced Water Resource Engineer focused on Hydraulics & Floodplain Engineering to lead a wide range of hydrologic, hydraulic, floodplain, and water resources projects across Idaho.

The role acts as a technical leader and trusted advisor to clients and agencies; you will manage projects, mentor staff, pursue business development, and ensure compliance with FEMA NFIP requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related field.
  • PE license in Idaho or ability to obtain Idaho licensure through reciprocity.
  • CFM certification.
  • Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in hydrology, hydraulics, floodplain management, or water resources engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of FEMA regulations, NFIP requirements, and local floodplain permitting processes.
  • Experience preparing FEMA map revision applications and floodplain permitting documents.
  • Expertise using Civil 3D and FEMA Mapping and Modeling Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hydrologic and hydraulic modeling studies.
  • Perform floodplain analyses for riverine, bridge, culvert, and watershed improvement projects.
  • Develop flood risk assessments, flood mitigation studies, and watershed management plans.
  • Conduct hydraulic evaluations supporting transportation, municipal, irrigation, and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare drainage studies, stormwater analyses, and floodplain impact evaluations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on FEMA regulations, NFIP requirements, and local floodplain ordinances.
  • Prepare LOMR and CLOMR letters, ensuring community eligibility for the NFIP.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate with engineers, planners, surveyors, and environmental professionals.
  • Develop practical, cost-effective solutions to address client and regulatory challenges.
  • Maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and exceptional service.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Support professional development initiatives and encourage knowledge-sharing within the organization.
  • Contribute to internal standards, modeling procedures, and best practices.
