Job summary

Walter P Moore is seeking an Engineering Intern to work in its Water Resources group across Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth. You will join project teams on public water and drainage projects and contribute to hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and related design tasks.

The internship offers exposure to FEMA studies and roadway drainage design, plus opportunities to participate in the in-house staff development program with flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a sound technical background, strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of basic hydrologic and hydraulic principles and familiarity with Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Prior experience on civil site development or drainage study projects is beneficial, but not required.
  • Experience with HEC-RAS (1D/2D), HEC-HMS, SWMM5 and/or ArcGIS is preferred.
  • BS in Civil Engineering or completing coursework.
  • Completed or currently enrolled in university-level coursework in hydrology and/or hydraulics.
  • Accepted to or planning to apply for a graduate program in Civil Engineering (Water Resources emphasis preferred).
  • Strong written communication and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication.
  • Available for a minimum of 20 hours per week (flexible schedules are negotiable).

Responsibilities

  • Participate with project teams on water resources projects, including hydrologic and hydraulic analyses.
  • Assist with FEMA studies, roadway drainage design, and flood warning system development.
  • Support commercial development assessment and design and other public infrastructure work.
