Job summary

GEI Consultants’ Plymouth, Michigan office is seeking motivated individuals to contribute to water resources projects from conception to construction by collaborating with engineers, scientists, and other technical staff.

The role supports our civil/water resources practice, performing data collection and analysis of riverine, groundwater, and coastal systems, and preparing maps, figures, and plan sets. Occasional field engineering may be required.

Qualifications

• Pursuit of a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering with coursework in hydrology, hydraulics, and soils.
• Previous experience performing hydrologic and/or hydraulic modeling preferred.
• Previous experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and surveying equipment preferred.
• Ability to perform field work in active construction sites and in inclement weather.
• Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
• Willing to travel and work in the field as required.
• A valid driver’s license.

Job description

The Plymouth, Michigan office of GEI is seeking highly motivated individuals to perform a broad range of water resources engineering technician duties. Candidates will work with engineers, scientists, and other technical staff to contribute to development of projects from conception to completed construction. This position will support GEI’s civil/water resources practice, which provide services in a wide range of settings. Representative projects of the position include data collection and analysis of riverine, ground water, and coastal systems and preparation of maps, figures, and plan sets. Occasional field engineering may also be assigned.

• Work with engineers, scientists, and field technicians while performing field data collection and construction observation/documentation for restoration and infrastructure projects.
• Assist with drafting plans and drawings utilizing AutoCAD and ArcGIS tools.
• Analysis of geospatial datasets and survey data for development of hydrologic and hydraulic models. Typical modeling tools include HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, HY-8, and empirical calculations in Excel.
• Travel to project sites occasionally required, including overnight travel.
• Work will be directed by various project managers.

Minimum Qualifications

• Pursuit of a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Geotechnical Engineering or related field, with coursework completed in hydrology, hydraulics, and soils.
• Previous experience performing hydrologic and/or hydraulic modeling preferred.
• Previous experience with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and surveying equipment preferred.
• Ability to perform field work in active construction sites without restrictions, and in inclement weather if required.
• Excellent organizational skills and verbal/written communication skills.
• Willing to travel and work in the field as required.
