Job summary

GEI Consultants in Akron, Ohio is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to contribute to water resources planning and implementation across diverse settings. You will join a connected team of GEI H&H professionals, execute diverse projects, and prepare technical documents for design and construction.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of civil engineering experience, PE licensure or progress toward it, and strong communication and travel capabilities.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of professional experience in civil engineering projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; MS is a plus.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain in three years.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel for assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Execute technical projects with PMs and staff on water resources tasks.
  • Prepare memoranda and reports and present technical information to peers/clients.
  • Create design documents, specs, BOMs and project schedules.
  • Travel to project sites and other offices as needed.
  • Independently research and resolve technical/work issues.
  • Support dam removal, river restoration, flood control and stormwater planning.
  • Utilize software like SWMM, HEC-RAS and GIS in design and analysis.

Job description

GEI’s Water Resources practice is growing and we are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join our Akron, Ohio office. Candidate will be part of a connected team of GEI H&H professionals across the country. This individual will contribute to planning and implementation of water resource projects in a variety of natural and urban settings.

  • Execute technical projects and assignments in coordination with project managers and support staff. Example projects include dam removals, river restoration, dam rehabilitation, flood control, stormwater management planning and design, civil/site design.
  • Prepare detailed written memoranda and reports on technical assignments and present technical information to peers and clients;
  • Prepare design documents including drawings, technical specifications, basis of design documents, bid documents and project schedules.
  • Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel.
  • Self-motivated. The candidate will have the confidence and motivation to independently research, determine and calculate answers that lead to independent decisions on various work/client related issues. The candidate is not necessarily expected to act as the Engineer of Record on projects but will interact and report to engineers who act in that capacity.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with civil design, H/H modeling, stormwater BMP and river restoration planning, design and monitoring. Construction oversight/field engineering experience is desirable.
  • Computer modeling experience. The ideal candidate will have experience with USEPA SWMM and HEC-RAS (both 1D and 2D versions), but other similar software experience is likely sufficient.
  • GIS experience. The candidate will have working knowledge of GIS tools, including spatial analysis tools and the ability to create, analyze and convert topographic and bathymetric surfaces within and export out of GIS.
  • CAD experience. The candidate will have experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D software, with ability to analyze/convert surfaces, and prepare construction-level plans.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years of professional experience demonstrating skills mentioned above;
  • B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering, M.S. considered a plus.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain in three (3) years.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well alone and in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to travel as needed for work assignments.
