Job summary

GEI Consultants in Traverse City, MI is seeking motivated individuals for water resources engineering technician duties. You will work with engineers, scientists and field technicians on field data collection, construction observation, and documentation for restoration and infrastructure projects.

Proficiency with AutoCAD/ArcGIS for plans and drawings is required, with modeling using HEC-HMS/HEC-RAS/SWMM/HY-8 and Excel. Occasional travel is expected.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; AS degree in Engineering Technology preferred; BS degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geology Engineering preferred.
• Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Willingness to travel.
• Preference given to candidates with AutoCAD, ArcMap and surveying equipment experience.

Responsibilities

• Analyze GIS datasets and survey data to develop hydrologic and hydraulic models (HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, HY-8, Excel).
• Travel to project sites occasionally.

Job description

The Traverse City, Michigan office of GEI is seeking highly motivated individuals to perform a broad range of water resources engineering technician duties.

• Candidates will work with engineers, scientist and field technicians while performing field data collection, and construction observation and documentation for restoration and infrastructure projects.
• Development of plans and drawings utilizing AutoCAD and ArcGIS tools.
• Analysis of GIS datasets and survey data for development of hydrologic and hydraulic models. Typical modeling tools include, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, HY-8, and empirical calculations in Excel.
• Travel to project sites occasionally required, including overnight travel.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma required, AS degree in Engineering Technology, in pursuit of BS degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geology Engineering, or related field highly preferred.
• Previous experience performing hydrologic and hydraulic modeling preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and valid driver’s license are required.
• Must be willing to travel
• Preference will also be given toward candidates with experience using AutoCAD, ArcMap and surveying equipment.
