Job summary

City of Lynchburg seeks an experienced Civil/Environmental Engineer for the Water Resources Department to lead design, project management, and inspections across water distribution, storage, and wastewater systems.

The role involves coordination with regulatory agencies, bid processes, and budget oversight, with PE license preferred but not required if pursuing licensure within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering with considerable professional engineering design and construction experience.
• PE license preferred but not required if the applicant can work toward it within 6 months.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials and stakeholders.
• Thorough knowledge of water treatment, distribution, wastewater, and environmental regulations.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and prepare designs for water/wastewater projects and capital improvement programs.
• Review plans and specifications for civil/environmental projects and utilities.
• Provide technical assistance to stakeholders and supervise construction activities.
• Manage project budgets and changes, and prepare council reports and bid processes.
• Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
