Job summary

City of El Paso is seeking a Laboratory Analyst to perform physical, bacteriological, and chemical analyses of water and wastewater across the treatment process. The role involves collecting samples, maintaining detailed records, and operating advanced laboratory instrumentation.

The incumbent will prepare reagents, ensure quality control, troubleshoot equipment, and support data entry into the laboratory information management system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in chemistry or life sciences required.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular physical, bacteriological and complex chemical analyses of water, wastewater, biosolids, and reclaimed water at all stages of collection, processing, treatment, distribution, and disposal.
• Collect samples for testing at various treatment stages and maintain accurate records and databases of samples, tests, and results.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including spectrophotometry and chromatography instruments; analyze data using laboratory information management systems.
• Prepare reagents, perform standardization on reagents, and conduct quality control on distilled water, pH meters, nephelometers, conductivity meters, and colorimeters.
• Troubleshoot analytic equipment as needed; maintain quality control records to ensure laboratory certification.
• Assist with special testing projects as requested by consultants or supervisors; support bio-monitoring and sampling efforts; upload data to relevant systems.

Education

Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Parasitology, or a related field
