Job summary

The City of Independence, MO is seeking a Laboratory Analyst to conduct analyses of water and wastewater samples to determine chemical properties and ensure EPA compliance. Under supervision, you will operate lab equipment, calibrate instruments, and perform routine chemical and bacteriological tests.

You will analyze samples for pH, turbidity, chlorine, metals, and bacteria, provide recommendations on plant efficiency and regulatory compliance, and assist with reporting and certification tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related field; five (5) years of experience performing above or related duties.
• Must be able to operate laboratory equipment and perform routine chemical and bacteriological analysis.
• Strong recordkeeping and report preparation abilities; familiarity with state, federal and local regulations.
• Proficiency with MS Office and related applications; ability to train plant operators and environmental staff.

Responsibilities

• Operate lab equipment to perform tests and analyses; calibrate equipment; collect and analyze water distribution samples.
• Analyze water and solids for pH, turbidity, chlorine, hardness, metals, bacteria, and related properties.
• Provide recommendations on plant efficiency and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with state certification processes and special chemical or bacteriological research.
• Coordinate purchasing of lab supplies and maintain inventory.
• Contribute to public outreach materials and respond to water quality inquiries.
