Job summary

Columbus Water & Power is seeking a qualified water treatment operator for the Parsons Ave. Water Plant. The role requires operating SCADA, analyzing samples, adjusting chemical dosages, and maintaining OEPA certification.

The position requires EPA certifications, a valid driver's license, and the ability to respond to emergencies and maintain accurate logs. Training and shift work on nights from Wednesday to Saturday are included.

Qualifications

• EPA Class II Water Supply Operator certificate required.
• EPA Full Laboratory Certificate for the assigned water treatment facility required by probationary period.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Operates SCADA to control and monitor water treatment processes and verify data accuracy.
• Collects and analyzes water samples to inform treatment changes.
• Evaluates laboratory results and adjusts chemical dosages to meet standards.
• Maintains laboratory equipment, standards, and certifications to OEPA requirements.
• Monitors chemical inventories and ensures proper delivery, unloading, and storage.
• Maintains records of shift operations and data readings.
• Responds to emergencies such as chemical spills, outages, or severe weather.
• Develops and trains staff on operating procedures and safety practices.
• Develops PLC/RTU programs and databases to control equipment and processes.
• Keeps knowledge of plant equipment and SCADA failure modes to ensure operations during abnormal conditions.
• Prepares maintenance requests and performs minor equipment maintenance.
• Coordinates activities with other facilities and may supervise shift staff.
