Job summary

HDR is seeking a Planning Project Manager in California to lead water/wastewater planning efforts. You will manage budgets, schedules, and teams, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with clients and internal stakeholders to deliver complex projects.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of related experience, strong communication, and proficiency with CAD, GIS, and hydraulic modeling tools. HDR offers an employee-owned culture and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering with registration or ability to obtain PE license.
• 7 years related experience; 2+ years of project management experience in capital projects.
• Strong writing and communication skills for client interactions and proposals.
• Experience with CAD and GIS; knowledge of hydraulic modeling tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning project management for water/wastewater initiatives, managing budgets and schedules.
• Mentor junior staff and coordinate with client development leads and internal teams.
• Define scopes, resources, budgets, and deliverables; maintain a project backlog.
• Develop and review execution plans; communicate progress to stakeholders.
• Represent HDR in meetings; support proposals, negotiations, and contract changes.
• Foster strong relationships with HDR clients and pursue new planning opportunities.
