Job summary

The Maine Water Company in Millinocket, Maine, is seeking a Water Operator I to maintain and operate wells, pump stations, tanks, treatment stations, and valves in their assigned area. You will inspect, test, adjust, and repair pumps, meters, gauges, and other equipment to ensure the delivery of high-quality water.

Responsibilities include calibration, chemical handling, meter reading, and installation/maintenance of water mains and hydrants.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Driver's License Required.
• Respirator use Required.
• General Office Software Skills.
• Mechanical aptitude (working with pumps, generators, and hydraulics).
• Compliance with state and federal regulations required.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to work standby rotation required.
• Water Distribution Level II License required or ability to work towards certification within a reasonable timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains operating systems; reports deficiencies to lead or supervisor.
• Performs preventive/corrective maintenance on chemical systems, pumps, operating valves, buildings, and storage tanks.
• Calibrates analyzers and related equipment.
• Calculates dosages, handles chemicals, and records production and compliance data.
• Installs, maintains water mains, hydrants, service lines and valves; reads meters and transfers reads to the office.
• Grounds keeping at facilities and over mains and other areas.
• Records location of underground facilities and performs inspections of piping systems.
• Participates in weekend, holiday and standby assignments.
