City of Savannah is seeking a Meter Shop Technician to assist with the inventory, distribution, and repair of water meters and related components. The role involves preparing, testing, and recording meter data, maintaining the meter shop inventory, and supporting field crews with meter-related tasks.

Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of mechanical repair or water distribution hardware installation experience, plus a valid state driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent with one year of mechanical repair or water distribution hardware installation.
• Knowledge of water meter repair and installation techniques.

Responsibilities

• Distributes water meters to mechanics, work crews, and plumbers; maintains records of distributed meters.
• Prepares meters; tests meters; inputs test results into software and sends reports; conducts and maintains meter shop inventory.
• Receives and distributes fire hydrant meters; prepares meters, fittings, backflow valves, and hoses.
• Installs, repairs, and disconnects water meters.
• Repairs or replaces water shut-off valves.
• Investigates water meter leaks.
• Checks water pressure.
• Maintains parts and supply inventory.
• Processes inventory orders to be submitted.
• Assists work crews in repair and maintenance duties as needed.
• Responds to after-hours emergencies.
