Job summary

Augusta Richmond County is seeking a Water Meter Technician to install, repair, and maintain residential and commercial water meters, valves, and related equipment. The role requires performing in various weather conditions and extended hours, with on-call duties after an initial period.

Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of equipment maintenance experience, with strong mechanical aptitude and basic customer service skills.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED.
• Experience: 1 year in equipment maintenance or related field; public works preferred.
• Knowledge/Skills: basic customer service, mechanical aptitude, ability to work independently, use standard tools and devices to service meters, interact calmly with the public, adapt to policies, operate with laptop/computer/radio devices.
• Must be able to perform on-call duties after ~6 months.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair and maintain water meters and related equipment.
• Diagnose and repair leaks; program meters; test water flow and pressure.
• Maintain meter records and inventory; locate meter boxes.
• Operate and maintain tools and equipment; use computers and software as needed.
• Travel to various locations; perform duties in all weather and hours including evenings/weekends.
