Job summary

Augusta Richmond County is seeking a Meter Reader to read meters on an assigned route, verify data accuracy, and handle basic maintenance of reading equipment. You will troubleshoot bills, generate service orders, and communicate with customers about leaks or high consumption.

Position requires a valid driver's license, willingness to travel the route, and ability to work weekends/holidays in all weather conditions. Travel is less than 50% and the role reports to the Meter Reader Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Basic customer service knowledge.
• Minimum knowledge of mechanical devices.
• Capable of learning water meter functions.
• Experience using standard tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, and shovel, operating a motor vehicle, and a two-way radio).
• Ability to work with computer technology related to radio read meter reading.
• Ability to interact with the public calmly and clearly if called upon to discuss problems at the location.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and still meet deadlines.
• Ability to adapt to the policies of Augusta, Georgia, which govern the use of its fleet vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Reads meters on an assigned route and records meter data.
• Troubleshoots high/low water bills and re-reads meters with unusual usage levels.
• Generates service orders to replace or repair non-registering meters and enters data into systems.
• Performs routine maintenance on truck and equipment and completes inspection checklists.
• Communicates with customers about leaks and consumption and reports leaks to meter maintenance.
