Job summary

City of Albany, Georgia is seeking a skilled worker to install, repair and test water meters and related AMR equipment. You will read meters, maintain records and coordinate service with city departments.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, basic mechanical training, a valid GA driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Water Distribution System Operator certification within six months. This role requires physical work outdoors and occasional on-call duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by Vocational/Technical training in Mechanics, Meter Repair, or related field.
• Two (2) years previous experience or training involving maintenance, operation, installation, repair and/or testing of water meters/automated meter reading equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Must possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
• Must possess and maintain GA Water Distribution System Operator certification within six months.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain water meters and AMR equipment.
• Test water meters for accuracy and investigate irregular readings.
• Maintain records of meter readings, meters, numbers and activities; locate meter boxes.
• Communicate with supervisor, customers and city departments to coordinate work.
• Operate and maintain a range of equipment and tools used in installation, repair, and testing.
