Job summary

The City of Fayetteville is looking for a Meter Reader to support water operations and customer service. You will read water meters, record readings with handheld devices, and assist with service turns on/off and billing corrections.

Ideal candidates will hold a high school diploma or GED, have a valid driver’s license, and be able to lift and carry equipment as needed. The role requires reliability in all weather and occasional on-call duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Ability to read and interpret safety and maintenance manuals.
• Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Willingness to work on-call as needed.

Responsibilities

• Read meters on daily assigned routes and record readings electronically.
• Assist with turning on/off water services and bill-related conditions.
• Verify readings for accuracy and assist with billing corrections.
• Maintain daily activity reports and repair or report service problems.
• Maintain meter boxes and related equipment; perform minor maintenance.
• Respond to call duties and support training for new staff.
