Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide good customer service to internal and external customers and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Read water meters on daily routes, manually recording readings with a handheld device and performing minor maintenance as needed.
  • Verify weekly meter readings for accuracy to support utility billing.
  • Assist with meter connections/disconnections and related customer service tasks, including delinquent accounts and inspections.
  • Perform routine meter maintenance such as removing/replacing meters and cleaning meter boxes.
  • Participate in a 24-hour call duty as assigned and assist with training of new staff.
  • Maintain daily activity reports and prepare reports for utility billing and ensure equipment and truck are maintained.
  • Secondary duties as assigned.

Essential Job Duties

Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment.

  1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  2. The incumbent is responsible for reading water meters in a timely, accurate and efficient manner. Job is performed in all weather conditions and is not exempt form holiday or weekend call duty. Job involves operation of a motor vehicle and hand held computer. Assists with turnons and turnoffs and performs minor meter maintenance as needed.
  3. Read meters on daily assigned routes manually recording readings using an electronic handheld recording device. Occasionally read meters electronically recording readings using a handheld or mobile recording device. Record or notify appropriate city personnel of any service related problems that require repair or correction.
  4. Verify weekly meter readings for accuracy using a printed meter reading report for accuracy using a printed meter reading report to verify and record information for utility billing corrections or future reference. Notify water customers or appropriate city personnel of possible leaks or service related problems.
  5. Assist with customer service related jobs such as connecting and disconnecting water meters for normal service; collecting; disconnecting and reconnecting delinquent accounts; verifying and inspecting water services and meters; and investigating water leaks, pressure and flow-related problems.
  6. Perform minor meter maintenance such as removing and replacing water meters; replace meter box lids; and clean in and around meter boxes.
  7. Perform scheduled 24 hour call duty as assigned.
  8. Assist with the training of new meter operations personnel.
  9. Maintain daily activity reports and prepare reports for utility billing.
  10. Maintain truck and all equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Must possess a valid Driver's License
  3. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
  4. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  5. Must be proficient in the use of a personal computer and other related software programs including knowledge of the operation of a hand held computer and two way radio preferred. Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
  6. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret equipment operation manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, contractors, customers and the general public.
  7. Perform scheduled 24 hour call duty as assigned.
  8. Ability to arrive at work promptly in the case of inclement weather i.e. snow, flooding, etc.
  9. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds; frequently lift or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  10. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. Employee is regularly required to drive from job to job and perform job assignments close to vehicle traffic.
