Job summary

The City of Weslaco is seeking a Water Meter Technician to ensure the accurate operation of metering systems through installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of meters and AMI/AMR devices in the field. This role supports utility billing and customer service by resolving issues in real time.

Responsibilities include reading meters, inputting data, performing inspections, and coordinating with water distribution crews.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years related work experience preferred.
• Pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
• Valid Texas Driver's License Class C and insurable.
• Emergency Management / Incident Command Training within 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Install, program, test, maintain, and repair water meters and related hardware.
• Diagnose and resolve meter malfunctions or inaccurate readings.
• Perform field investigations of high/low consumption, leaks, and service irregularities.
• Input meter readings into billing systems and maintain records.
• Respond to customer service requests in the field and assist with locates.
