Job summary

City of Tulare seeks a Water Meter Specialist to lead our field crew, oversee AMI programs, and ensure accurate water metering data. You will balance hands-on meter work with team mentorship in an outdoor utility setting.

The ideal candidate has strong leadership, AMI troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to customer service. This role supports billing accuracy and water system integrity through proactive field operations.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to 12th grade with 2+ years in public agency water meter operations.
• Valid California driver’s license is required.
• SWRCB Water Distribution Operator Certificate, Grade D1 is required or obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Lead field crew, schedule work, and provide mentorship.
• Program, calibrate, diagnose, and replace AMI meters and transmitters.
• Reconcile database readings with field meters and resolve discrepancies.
• Install, test, and repair water services, hydrant meters, and meter boxes.
• Coordinate water shutoffs safely and respond to service requests and complaints.
