Job summary

Columbus Water Works through Westaff Staffing Agency seeks a Meter Maintenance Technician to connect and disconnect water service, inspect meters, read meters and install AMR/AMI equipment. You will verify readings and respond to customer inquiries while performing routine maintenance on meters and meter boxes.

The role requires driving routes, lifting up to 50 pounds, and the ability to work occasional after-hours on-call shifts under supervision by the Meter Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• One year of maintenance experience preferred; meters or water distribution projects preferred.
• Good oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• First Aid/CPR certifications within one year of employment.
• Ability to perform regular on-call duty.
• Ability to navigate service area using maps and addresses.

Responsibilities

• Connects and disconnects water service.
• Repairs leaks, performs pressure checks and inspects services.
• Verifies meter readings on rotary, straight-read and AMR/AMI equipment.
• Reports violations of rules and regulations.
• Tactfully respond to customer inquiries and complaints.
• Read water consumption and record volume used by customers.
• Walks or drives to read meters; operate reading equipment.
• Change out meters and repair leaks as needed.
• Repair/replace meter boxes and reading equipment as needed.
