Job summary

Austin Water seeks a licensed or skilled civil/environmental engineer to support design, planning, and oversight of projects across structures, facilities, and systems. The role requires applying engineering principles to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective solutions for a rapidly growing city.

You're expected to prepare schedules, budgets, and technical specs, perform detailed analyses, and coordinate with contractors and utilities.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil, environmental, structural, architectural, mechanical and/or electrical engineering terminology.
• Ability to perform complex engineering computations including calculus, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Experience with cost estimates and engineering feasibility reports.

Responsibilities

• Identifies, evaluates, and provides improvement recommendations with preliminary designs and design criteria.
• Prepares preliminary and long-range plans, schedules, budgets, detailed plans, specs, and agreements.
• Develops cost estimates and oversees plan documents, specs, and contract coordination with contractors and utilities.
• Writes technical specifications for construction contracts and ensures compliance with plans.
• Conducts field inspections to verify conformance and drafts change orders for approvals.
• Performs statistical analyses for validation of reports and presentation formats.
• Develops standard operating procedures, policies, and ordinances for discipline areas.
