Job summary

City of Austin is seeking an Engineer C to design, plan, and oversee construction, maintenance, and alteration of facilities, processes, equipment, and systems in the Austin area. The role requires independent judgment with limited supervision and a strong engineering background.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, eight years of experience, and Texas P.E. licensure (or ability to obtain within six months).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, plus eight years of engineering experience.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas; or ability to obtain Texas P.E. within six months of employment.
• Preferred experience in civil, environmental, water resources engineering.
• Familiarity with local/state regulations, procurement, and contract practices.

Responsibilities

• Approve plans, specifications, or construction documents in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Lead technically complex projects requiring coordination across disciplines and agencies.
• Develop cost estimates and budgets for projects and prepare feasibility studies.
• Oversee field inspections to ensure conformity with plans and safety standards.
• Draft and review contract change orders and manage design team deliverables.
