Job summary

Horner & Shifrin, Inc. in St. Louis, MO, seeks an Assistant Business Unit Leader for our Water Division to drive strategic growth and mentor a growing team of professionals.

You will engage in client development, shape business strategy, and help build a backlog while ensuring high-quality work. This leadership role rewards experienced PE candidates with ownership culture and broad project responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
• Experience in drinking water, wastewater and/or stormwater design
• Ability to lead, manage and schedule staff to meet project needs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• Proficient in AutoCAD
• Knowledge of design software packages (HEC-RAS, XP-SWMM, EPA-SWMM, SewerGems, InfoWater, WaterGems, BioWin)
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Must complete a background check

Responsibilities

• Assist with workload projections and resource adjustments to meet commitments
• Review invoices, cost data, schedules and budgets with managers to ensure timely completion
• Coordinate with BD staff to maintain backlog
• Identify and convert new business opportunities to contract backlog
• Direct relationship building, project development, proposal development and contracting with clients
• Monitor quality and conformance of work products to client requirements
• Participate in environmental engineering calculations and construction drawings
• Prepare contract proposals and cost estimates
• Oversee production of high-quality project documents
• Monitor project schedules and budgets
• Coordinate projects with other business units as required
