Job summary

The City of Akron is seeking a routine semi-skilled worker to participate in installation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution system and related appurtenances. The role involves working in a crew, following supervision, and performing physical tasks in various weather conditions.

Qualifications include at least one year of paid labor experience, option to substitute training for experience, and a valid Ohio Class B CDL without airbrake restrictions.

Qualifications

• One year of paid experience as a laborer or an equivalent combination of paid experience and training.
• Equivalency statement allows substitution of up to 50% of paid experience with related training.
• Possession of a valid State of Ohio Class B commercial driver's license without airbrake restriction.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair water mains, services, hydrants, valves, and related appurtenances.
• Operates front-end loader, forklift, utility trucks, and other heavy equipment; loads, moves, and transports materials.
• Digs up water mains, services, hydrants, and valves with pneumatic, electric, hand, and other tools.
• Sets up barricades, flags, lights, and cones to warn motorists; directs traffic around street excavations.
• Backfills holes and tamping dirt; cleans sidewalks and lawn strips; assists in repairs and installations of water distribution components.
• Assists skilled trade persons in facility maintenance work and in general cleaning; maintains grounds and construction sites.
