Job summary

The City of Alexandria is seeking a Pipe Layer for the Water Distribution Department in Central Louisiana. The role involves skilled, physically demanding labor in construction, maintenance and repair of water and gas distribution systems.

Some positions require 24/7 call coverage for Gas and Wastewater duties. Duties include digging trenches, preparing pipes, installing and repairing gas utilities, and operating various tools and equipment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years’ experience in the construction, repair, and/or maintenance of pipelines.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.
• Must be able to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver’s license within one month of hire.

Responsibilities

• Digs holes, lines, trenches, and ditches using the necessary tools and equipment, for preparing the site for the laying of pipes.
• Prepares pipe for installation; threads and cuts pipe to required specifications.
• Constructs, maintains, and repairs existing gas utility system, lift systems, and manholes using methods approved by the department.
• Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete work assignments; operates and maintains mini excavator, pipe cut-off saw, probe rod, pipes and fittings, shovels, etc.
