City of Alexandria is seeking workers for skilled labor in construction, maintenance and repair of water, wastewater, or gas distribution systems. Positions involve 24-hour on-call duties and responding to emergencies in inclement weather or other events.
Duties include digging, preparing piping, installing and repairing gas utility systems, inspecting lines, and operating a range of tools and equipment. CDL or state licenses are required and certifications may be needed within months of hire.
The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled labor of a physically demanding nature in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water, wastewater, or gas distribution systems. Positions in Utilities are subject to 24-hour call. Responds to emergency calls during inclement weather or other emergencies.
High School diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years experience in the construction, repair, and/or maintenance of pipelines, preferably in a utility system; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification. Must be able to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver’s license within one month of hire.
Gas Department must obtain certifications as required by the Office of Pipeline Safety within six (6) months of hire.

Examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, a performance test or any combination thereof deemed necessary to adequately screen and rank applicants.
