Job summary

The City of Alexandria is seeking Maintenance Worker, Water Distribution to perform manual tasks in maintenance of city infrastructure and grounds in Central Louisiana. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license; State of Louisiana license may be required. 40 hours per week, with potential overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, and previous work experience is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Responsibilities

• Performs manual work functions associated with routine maintenance and upkeep of public grounds and facilities: mows lawns; trims and edges grass; blows leaves from walkways; plants, prunes, and maintains plants, trees and shrubs; spreads mulch; rakes leaves; clears debris; and performs related tasks.
• Transports, loads and unloads various materials and equipment used in projects; stock work trucks with needed supplies and equipment.
• Responds to emergency calls during inclement weather or other emergency situations.
• Utilizes precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
• Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fuel and fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
