Job summary

The City of Alexandria, LA is seeking a skilled welder to perform construction, maintenance, and repair of steel and polyethylene piping for gas utility systems. Tasks include layout, cutting, welding with arc, acetylene and butt fusion equipment, testing welds, and assisting in locating and repairing gas lines.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and welding experience, with at least 3 years in gas distribution maintenance.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, with welding experience.
At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance and repair of gas distribution systems.
Valid driver’s license; Louisiana license required at time of appointment.
Certifications required by the Office of Pipeline Safety within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

Perform welding and fabrication of steel and/or polyethylene piping for gas utility systems.
Layout, cut, fit materials, select electrodes and welding heat for proper penetration and strength.
Test welded pipes and equipment; inspect and finish welds.
Assist in locating and repairing gas lines, meters, valves, and related equipment.
Operate and maintain welding-related tools and equipment; complete required documentation.
