Job summary

City of Burlington seeks a Water Distribution Worker to install, maintain, and repair the City’s water main distribution system, service connections, and fire hydrants. Responsibilities include responding to emergencies, paving, and coordinating with the Meter Field Crew as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma, experience in underground water construction preferred, and a CDL A may be required within probation. This is a full-time, on-site position with safety-first duties.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• One year previous experience in underground water construction preferred.
• Vermont State Operator Classification Class D or equivalent required or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
• CDL Class A preferred or must obtain permit within probationary period and CDL A license within one year.
• Ability to read blueprints to identify water shut-offs and water lines.

Responsibilities

• Receive daily work schedule and load equipment, tools, and materials to safely complete tasks.
• Respond to emergency call outs and isolate water main breaks as directed.
• Fill and resurface roadways.
• Install, maintain, repair or replace sections of water mains and service connections.
• Install, maintain, repair or replace fire hydrants and ensure access by clearing debris.
• Maintain safe work area and comply with safety policies and OSHA regulations.
• Inspect new water lines laid by contractors for compliance with regulations.
• Gather asset information using GPS and handheld devices.
• Locate and expose road and gate boxes for paving projects.
• Respond to Dig-Safe notifications and identify water supply lines.
• Operate and maintain assigned vehicle and equipment and keep supplies on board.
• Plow City streets and sidewalks in coordination with street division.
• Backfill and landscape City green belts and lawns.
• Serve as ambassador for City and interact professionally with co-workers and public.
• Provide on-call coverage including nights, weekends, and holidays.
