Job summary

The City of Burlington is seeking a Water Distribution Worker to oversee all activities in the water main distribution system, including installation, maintenance and repair of mains, services, and fire hydrants. Staff may assist the Meter Field Crew and will support safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma, Vermont Class D operator certification or equivalent within a year, and a preference for CDL Class A.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Vermont State Operator Classification, Class D or equivalent required or obtainable within 1 year.
• CDL Class A preferred; if not held, must obtain within probationary period (90 days) and within one year.

Responsibilities

• Receive daily work schedule from Water Distribution Foreman and load equipment and materials as needed.
• Respond to emergency call outs and isolate water lines as required.
• Install, maintain, repair or replace water mains, valves and service connections per AWWA standards.
• Inspect new water lines laid by contractors for compliance with regulations.
• Maintain vehicle and equipment; keep tools and supplies on the vehicle as needed.
• Provide on-call coverage including nights, weekends and holidays.
