Job summary

City of Burlington, Vermont is seeking a Water Distribution Worker responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing the city’s water mains, services, and fire hydrants. The role supports the Meter Field Crew as needed and requires strict adherence to safety and OSHA regulations.

The position involves responding to emergencies, loading equipment, and ensuring work areas are safe while following AWWA standards. A CDL Class A is preferred or must be obtained within the probationary period.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must have or obtain CDL Class A within probationary period.
• Ability to read blueprints and identify water shut-offs.
• Experience with underground water construction preferred.
• Demonstrated safety awareness and use of PPE.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain water mains, valves, connections and hydrants per AWWA standards.
• Respond to emergencies and shut down isolating valves as needed.
• Load equipment and safely complete tasks per schedule.
• Inspect contractor-installed lines for compliance with standards.
• Maintain vehicle, tools, and equipment; provide on-call coverage as required.
