Job summary

Suffolk is seeking a diligent Water Quality Inspector to support the Quality Control Division, focusing on flushing water mains and performing FOG and cross-connection inspections to protect public health.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree required with 1–2 years in inspections, plumbing, construction or water treatment.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license and Backflow Tester License or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of FOG and cross-connection regulations and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction drawings for FOG and backflow protection.
  • Maintain recordkeeping and respond to FOG and backflow inspections.
  • Flush water distribution lines as directed to maintain water quality.
  • Inspect commercial and municipal buildings for cross-connection compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain technical reports and records of testing/inspection results.
  • Educate the public about backflow devices and FOG requirements.
  • Review site plans for backflow devices and FOG compliance.
  • Fax/mail forms, records and reports; vehicle maintenance and reporting defects.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
