Job summary

City of Suffolk seeks an experienced paraprofessional engineer to support its Stormwater Management Program. The role involves field inspections of BMPs, investigations of illicit discharges, and preparation of inspection and screening reports, with coordination across departments and contact with the public.

The ideal candidate has a science background, 2+ years in water/sewer utilities or surveying, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with science-focused coursework or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Conducts field inspections of stormwater facilities and develops inspection reports.
• Conducts illicit discharge investigations and coordinates with other departments to resolve issues.
• Performs stormwater outfall screenings and prepares related reports.
• Performs field testing and sampling of stormwater runoff.
• Assists with stormwater outreach events and presentations at schools/community events.
• Represents staff on committees and assists with public inquiries.
• Maintains department records, maps, and filing systems; assists engineers and developers with information requests.
• Reviews and inspects stormwater infrastructure and conducts property research.
• May provide sworn testimony in court or hearings; assists with emergency clean-up efforts during business hours.
• Performs other related duties as required.
