Job summary

The City of Suffolk seeks an inspector to coordinate with the Quality Control Division and perform FOG and backflow inspections, data entry, and recordkeeping for the tap water system. You will help ensure compliance with cross-connection laws and maintain testing records at the Water Treatment Facility.

Completion of an associate degree plus 1–2 years of inspection or water treatment experience is required; valid driver’s license and backflow tester license (or ability to obtain) are needed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to FOG and backflow inspections.
• Knowledge of environmental science and drinking water safety.
• Ability to organize data and prepare reports in prescribed formats.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and staff.
• Experience with inspection records, data entry, and recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

• Assist review of construction drawings with regard to FOG and backflow protection requirements.
• Maintain recordkeeping in response to FOG and backflow inspections.
• Perform flushing of water distribution lines to maintain water quality.
• Conduct FOG and cross-connection inspections on commercial and municipal buildings.
• Prepare and maintain technical reports and records of testing and inspection results.
• Educate the public about backflow devices and FOG requirements.
