Job summary

The City of Worcester is hiring a Cross Connection Coordinator in the Water Operations Division to protect the public potable water supply. You will identify, inspect, and mitigate cross-connections, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities include supervising contractors, maintaining CCCP databases, conducting field tests, reviewing submittals, and providing technical guidance to property owners and designers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with water systems certifications.
• 3 years experience in water distribution, plumbing inspection, or backflow prevention.
• Mass DEP Backflow Tester license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Mass DEP Cross-Connection Surveyor license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Manage and update the Cross Connection Control Program per local and state rules.
• Supervise CCCP contractors in field testing and surveys.
• Coordinate staff to complete CCCP work.
• Conduct field inspections and tests of backflow devices at various properties.
• Identify potential cross-connections and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain the cross-connection database and coordinate with other departments.
• Issue compliance notices and enforcement letters as required.
• Coordinate with inspectors and contractors on backflow requirements.
• Review backflow submittals and design data sheets.
• Provide technical guidance to owners, developers and designers.
• Respond to inquiries about water quality and backflow issues.
• Prepare detailed inspection, investigation and statistical reports.
• Maintain licensure and keep up with regulatory changes.
• Manage hydrant use program and irrigation backflow databases.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
