Job summary

City of Corpus Christi seeks Utility Technicians to maintain and operate six wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, and the wastewater collection system, ensuring safe and compliant operation under TCEQ rules.

Role involves monitoring processes, performing laboratory tests, reacting to emergencies, and coordinating with the public works team. Non-exempt, full-time with evening/weekend/holiday flexibility; a valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• No prior experience required.
• Valid driver's license required; out-of-state candidates must obtain TX license within 90 days of hiring.

Responsibilities

• Conducts preventative maintenance on engines, generators, pumps, settling tanks, filters, chemical feed systems, and other plant equipment.
• Completes basic to intermediate process control measurements and testing of DO, pH, residual analysis meters, sludge quality, and sulfide levels.
• Responds to emergency chemical releases and implements containment and evacuation procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of plant flow and water and wastewater treatment processes.
• Conducts process laboratory analyses and records treatment residual data.
• Maintains inventories of treatment chemicals.
• Monitors distribution system pressures through remote control systems.
• Operates pumps, motors, and valves remotely.
• Receives and verifies chemical deliveries.
• Applies knowledge of TCEQ regulations to daily plant operations.
• Assists with other duties as assigned.
