Job summary

Carson City Public Works seeks a full-time wastewater treatment operator. Under supervision, you will operate, inspect and maintain equipment across primary, secondary and tertiary treatment processes to ensure continuous plant operation.

The role requires 1 year of journey-level experience with mechanical/electrical equipment and a high school diploma or GED, plus Nevada-specific licensing requirements. Benefits include NV PERS retirement and a comprehensive City labor contract.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to a High School education or GED; AND one (1) year of journey-level experience in operation and maintenance of mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret plant drawings and procedures.
  • Experience with wastewater treatment processes and related regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate pumps, valves and equipment to regulate wastewater flow.
  • Maintain even flow for efficiency of plant equipment.
  • Take samples and record chain of custody.
  • Write and manage work orders in CMMS system.
  • Perform basic maintenance and inspections of plant equipment.
  • Monitor chemical inventory and safely handle bulk chemicals.
